Cafe, Kent, Oregon

Kent is one of several ghost towns in central Oregon. While there are still some inhabitants, and the grain elevator is still in use (although updated from the original), the population is much smaller than in its heyday as an agricultural community. Like so many communities, the advent of highways and large commercial farms made small towns less important to agriculture, and eventually led to their decline.

The café pictured here was closed by the owner, when he became worried about the safety of his wife working alone while he tended the fields.
