Sunset, Saguaro National Park

Formed as a National Monument in 1933, Saguaro was upgraded to National Park status in 1994. The park consists of two sections near Tucson, AZ. The eastern section is larger and more rugged; the western section is smaller and more accessible. This photo was taken in the western section of the park

The Saguaro cactus is the king of the cactus family. Often growing more that 50’ tall, the saguaro can live for well over 100 years. The saguaro is found only in the Sonoran desert, which covers part of Arizona and some of northern Mexico
